With each anime season comes over 100 new anime theme songs! Here are the ones from this summer’s anime season that remain firmly stuck in my head.

*Note: Songs are presented in alphabetical order by series.

Anime: Angels Of Death

Song: “Pray”

Artist: Haruka Chisuga

Why I Love It: I love how the piano line in this song acts as a counterpoint to the vocals that gives the verses a haunting feel.

Anime: Attack on Titan: Season 3

Song:  “Requiem der Morgenröte”

Artist: Linked Horizon

Why I Love It: What starts off as a somber children’s ballad transitions into a chorus reminiscent of the previous Attack on Titan theme songs.

Anime: Baki

Song: “BEASTFUL”

Artist: GRAN RODEO

Why I Love It: This song has an excellent build, layering on the instruments until exploding into the chorus. The male pitch-perfect falsetto doesn’t hurt either.

Anime: Banana Fish

Song: “found & lost”

Artist: Survive Said The Prophet

Why I Love It: The chorus of this song takes beautiful male vocals and a rocking melody and accentuates them with a death metal growl to make something more than the sum of its parts.

Anime: Steins;Gate 0

Song: “Fatima”

Artist: Kanako Itou

Why I Love It: What I really like about this one is how it reflects the game’s opening song Amadeus, with the chorus having a both a similar pace and chord progression. It’s like it’s reminding us that, like the two songs, the game and anime are different yet strikingly similar. (Yes, I know this one is a bit of a cheat, but as the second opening uses the second verse of the song, I decided it was different enough from the first season version to include on this list).

Extra Pick: An Awesome Game Theme Song from Summer 2018

Game: Border Break (PS4)

Song: “Amazing Trees”

Artist: SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Tielle

Why I Love It: If you loved the theme songs to last year’s Re:Creators, then you have to check this one out. From the same composer and one of the singers, this one brings a similar feel with a soft build followed by a powerful two-part chorus.
