Anime: Black Clover

Song: “Black Rover”

Artist: Vickeblanka

Why I Love It: I have a soft spot for songs with prominent piano parts and this one stands apart by combining the piano with a syncopated male falsetto in the chorus to make something unique.

Anime: Full Metal Panic! Invisible Victory

Song: “Even…if”

Artist: Tamaru Yamada

Why I Love It: Two things get me in this one: 1) The syncopation of the chorus and 2) the emotional acapella that makes up the final few bars of the song.

Anime: Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These

Song: “Binary Star”

Artist: SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Uru

Why I Love It: With this slow, powerful ballad, Sawano Hiroyuki perfectly sets up the melancholy-yet-epic story of an unending war in space where no side is technically “good” even though there are heroes on both sides.

Anime: ReLIFE

Song: “CHE.R.RY”

Why I Love It: As is the case with all the various ReLIFE ending songs, this is a classic, chart-topping song from the 90s and 00s (2007 to be exact). Playing with different speeds and leading into an unforgettable chorus, it’s easy to see why this song was so popular in Japan.
