10 Rocking Anime Songs from Summer 2019

This summer features 38 new TV anime–and with each a slew of anime music. And then there are all the films, ONAs, and continuing series with their own sets of jams. From all that, I narrowed down which I’ve enjoyed most into the following 10 recommendations.

*Note: Songs are presented in alphabetical order by series.

Anime: A Certain Scientific Accelerator

Song: “Shadow is the Light”

Artist: THE SIXTH LIE

Why I Love It: The counterpoint between the robotically distorted voices in the pre-chorus and the pure vocals of the chorus itself make it soar so much more than it would on its own.

Anime: Arifureta: From Commonplace to World’s Strongest

Song: “FLARE”

Artist: Void_Chords feat. LIO

Why I Love It: What starts with a subdued verse turns into a rocking soprano anthem–not to mention the little vocal slide the vocalist sneaks into the chorus to make it sound just that much cooler.

Anime: BEM

Song: “Iruimi”

Artist: JUNNA

Why I Love It: JUNNA transforms what could be an ordinary song into an unforgettable ballad with nothing but the sheer power and range of her voice. It gives me chills everytime.

Anime: Carole & Tuesday

Song: “Not Afraid”

Artist: Alisa

Why I Love It: We get the chorus three times in this short ending: once with drum kit and acoustic guitar, once with piano, and once with all of them combined (plus a synthesizer for good measure). All three times are drastically different but equally wonderful.
