The weather may be cold but the anime themes this season are hot! Here are my ten favorites.
*Note: Songs are presented in alphabetical order by series.
Anime: Attack on Titan: Final Season
Song: “Boku no Sensou”
Artist: Shinsei Kamattechan
Why I Love It: The verse harkens back to the melody of the first Attack on Titan opening song while the chorus is a military march punctuated by child-like voices to create an unsettling yet triumphant piece of music.

Anime: Back Arrow
Song: “dawn”
Artist: LiSA
Why I Love It: For this one it’s all about the pre-chorus. Its descending melody and distorted vocals lead perfectly into the song’s sweeping rock chorus.

Anime: Detective Conan
Song: “Reboot”
Artist: Airi Miyakawa
Why I Love It: From start to finish the song is all about playing with different forms of syncopation.

Anime: Ex-Arm
Song: “Diamonds Shine”
Artist: Dizzy Sunfist
Why I Love It: Rather than J-Rock or J-Pop, this reminds me of any number of American/British rocks songs I grew up with in the 90s and early 2000s.

Anime: Hortensia Saga
Song: “LEADER”
Artist: MY FIRST STORY
Why I Love It: It’s amazing how high the main vocal’s voice is able to go without breaking into a falsetto–either that or his chest voice and head voice are so well-blended that the switch between them is unnoticeable (which would be equally awesome).

Anime: Log Horizon: the Destruction of the Round Table
Song: “Different”
Artist: BAND-MAID
Why I Love It: The chorus is so different from what you’d expect from the rock buildup in the verse and pre-chorus before it yet it’s catchy nonetheless.

Anime: Non Non Biyori Nonstop
Song: “Tsugihagi Moyou”
Artist: anano.RIPE
Why I Love It: During the chorus, it sounds like the lead singer is doing her own background vocals with the same melody–which creates this cool resonance between the two, nearly identical versions of her voice.

Anime: Princess Principal: Crown Handler
Song: “LIES & TIES”
Artist: Void_Cords feat. Yui Mugino
Why I Love It: The powerful female vocals and big band awesomeness of this song are only eclipsed by the first Princess Principal opening song.

Anime: Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (Season 2, Part 2)
Song: “Long Shot”
Artist: Mayu Maeshima
Why I Love It: This song is basically a dubstep background track invaded by rocking J-Pop vocals. What’s not to love?

Anime:: Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgement
Song: “time”
Artist: SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:ReoNa
Why I Love It: It starts quiet with almost whispered vocals before breaking into an expectedly rocking Hiroyuki Sawano chorus, perfectly tailored to the full range of the singer.
