10 Rocking Anime Theme Songs from Fall 2020

With the new fall anime season comes dozens upon dozens of new anime songs. Here are the 10 I’ve been enjoying most.

*Note: Songs are presented in alphabetical order by series.

Anime: Assault Lily: Bouquet
Song: “Sacred World”
Artist: Raise a Suilen
Why I Love It: This song is reminiscent of late 90s anime theme songs–only with a fun little vocal rap constantly intruding to make things silly before it joins in to supplement the chorus.

Anime: Haikyuu!!: To the Top (Season 2)
Song: “Toppakou”
Artist: Super Beaver
Why I Love It: This song’s melody almost seems to ignore–and at times clash–with its background music but it makes the vocals stand out in a cool way.

Anime: I’m standing on 1,000,000 lives.
Song: “Anti World”
Artist: Kanako Takatsuki
Why I Love It: While the vocals and chorus are amazing, it’s the high-pitched piano and sweeping strings that get me on this one.

Anime: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? III
Song: “Evergreen”
Artist: Sajou no Hana
Why I Love It: This song contains a contrast between the rocking beat and the softness of the vocals–but what really gets me is the vocal slides the singer does at the end of some high notes.

Anime: Noblesse
Song: “Breaking Dawn”
Artist: Jae Joong
Why I Love It: The end of the song where the chorus and pre-chorus combine to play off each other is super fun musically.

Anime: The Day I Became a God
Song: “Kimi to iu shinwa”
Artist: Jun Maeda X Nagi Yanagi
Why I Love It: With a great use of pipes and strings this one was right up my alley from the start–but it’s the vocal syncopation in the chorus that puts it over the top.

Anime: The Gymnastics Samurai
Song: “Yume ja nai”
Artist: Hatena
Why I Love It: That falsetto/non-falsetto harmony in the chorus… damn!

Anime: The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc
Song: “Howling”
Artist: ASCA
Why I Love It: With its fast pace and powerful soprano vocals, this is the perfect theme to get you pumped for the action-filled anime to come.

Anime: Wandering Witch
Song: “Haiiro no Saga”
Artist: ChouCho
Why I Love It: This one is all about the syncopation and how both the instruments and vocals play around with it.

Anime:: Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon
Song: “Break”
Artist: Uru
Why I Love It: The verses are hauntingly beautiful thanks to Uru’s raspy voice–which is combined with a techno beat in the chorus to make something novel.

Bonus Pick: The Best Game Song of the Fall 2020 Season

Game: 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
Song: “Seaside Vacation”
Artist: Itou Fuu
Why I Love It: I’ve written an entire article about the genius of a 2020s song being written in the style of an 80s pop hit reminiscent of those found in the original Macross. Seriously, just read it.
