Sadly, once I had nothing left to do, I still wanted more. However, as <em>Elden Ring<\/em> was my first Soulsborne game, I had several similar games to choose from. Since the <em>Demon\u2019s Soul<\/em> remake was the only one specifically made for PS5\u2014not to mention it being the progenitor of the genre\u2014I decided that it was the perfect place to start. This was a mistake.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Demon&#039;s Souls EASY EARLY OP Guide - Magic Build\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IBfCD7NvVXM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I approached <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> in the exact same way I had <em>Elden Ring<\/em>. I wanted to play as a ranged magic user\u2014i.e., the game\u2019s nearest equivalent to having an easy mode. I looked up a few YouTube guides that showed me what I needed to do:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clear the opening level (1-1)<\/li>\n<li>Kill six skeletons in 4-1 to pick up a magic-scaling (and MP restoring) <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Falchion\">Crescent Falchion<\/a> sword and then take the shortcut to kill the 4-1 boss.<\/li>\n<li>Farm the runes and materials to level the <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Falchion\">Crescent Falchion<\/a> up by killing the reaper at the start of 4-2 again and again.<\/li>\n<li>Beat 2-1\u2014and, in the process, get access to Ed the Blacksmith, pick up the magic-boosting <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Kris+Blade\">Kriss Blade<\/a>, and get the material to buy the <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Fire+Spray\">Fire Spray<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Beat 3-1\u2014and, in the process, pick up the magic boosting <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Ring+Of+Magical+Sharpness\">Ring Of Magical Sharpness<\/a>, rescue magic trainer Sage Freke, and get the material needed to buy the <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Soul+Ray\">Soul Ray<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Beat 3-2 in order to reach 3-3.<\/li>\n<li>Defeat the Old Monk boss in 3-3 for the material needed to buy the <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Homing+Soul+Arrow\">Homing Soul Arrow<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Become the Old Monk boss in 3-3 and defeat another player for the <a href=\"https:\/\/demonssouls.wiki.fextralife.com\/Monk's+Head+Wrappings\">Monk&#8217;s Head Wrappings<\/a> (which boosts magic damage).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This done, all that was left was to level my stats as I collected souls naturally and continue leveling up my weapons as I came across the needed upgrade. Basically, I was only a few hours in and ready to start leisurely enjoying my way through the game just as I had through <em>Elden Ring<\/em>. Of course, any <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> veterans reading this will have already noticed the big problem with my way of thinking.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-4449\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/biggestinjapan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/world-tendency-menu-demons-souls-remake-wiki-guide-large-min.jpg?resize=1024%2C484\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"484\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/biggestinjapan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/world-tendency-menu-demons-souls-remake-wiki-guide-large-min.jpg?resize=1024%2C484&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/biggestinjapan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/world-tendency-menu-demons-souls-remake-wiki-guide-large-min.jpg?resize=300%2C142&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/biggestinjapan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/world-tendency-menu-demons-souls-remake-wiki-guide-large-min.jpg?resize=768%2C363&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/biggestinjapan.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/world-tendency-menu-demons-souls-remake-wiki-guide-large-min.jpg?w=1254&amp;ssl=1 1254w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You see<em> Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> is made up of five worlds. Each world has three stages (except for the first world which has four). The final stage of each world is little more than a boss fight. This means that, just by gearing up. I had completed five of the eleven fully fleshed-out stages. Without realizing it, I was basically halfway through the game. Moreover, being geared up, I was able to move through the remaining stages much quicker than the previous ones. Only a few hours of fun later, I was watching the credits roll.<\/p>\n<p>To say I was feeling a bit disappointed would be an understatement. However, I can\u2019t really put the blame on anyone but myself. It\u2019s not the game that was the problem\u2014nor was it the strategy of gearing up to become as powerful as possible from the start. Rather, it was my expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Coming off of <em>Elden Ring<\/em>, what I really wanted was more <em>Elden Ring<\/em>\u2014that is to say a massive, sprawling adventure in an expansive, lore-filled world. While I knew that <em>Demon\u2019s Souls <\/em>wasn\u2019t exactly this, the shiny, new PS5 coat of paint allowed me to trick myself into believing that it was\u2014despite the undeniable fact that it is the oldest of the Soulsborne games. When it comes down to it, <em>Elden Ring<\/em> is a huge game that requires hundreds of hours to master while the entirety of <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> could fit into <em>Elden Ring<\/em>\u2019s starting area of Limgrave with room to spare.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How to Make an Arcane Build early [Bloodborne 2023]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3MtypkTfUP8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>What I should have done was played <em>Sekiro<\/em> or <em>Bloodborne<\/em>\u2014newer games that are far more meaty than <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em>. They, like <em>Elden Ring<\/em>, have been built on the foundations laid by <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> and its <em>Dark Souls<\/em> predecessors and thus have been free to evolve, expand, an innovate. In fact, I have been playing through <em>Bloodborne<\/em> (going for an early 99 Arc build) and have enjoyed it much more than <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> for this very reason.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, I really feel like I did <em>Demon\u2019s Souls<\/em> a major disservice. It\u2019s in no way a bad game. It was just a mistake to play it right after <em>Elden Ring<\/em> when my expectations were so high.
