Anime: Baruto: Naruto Next Generations
Song: “Gamushara”
Artist: CHiCO with HoneyWorks
Why I Love It: I really like how the singer’s breaths have a musical tone to them and are basically inward singing.

Anime: Belle
Song: “Uta Yo”
Artist: Kaho Nakamura
Why I Love It: From unsure timid singing at the start to a tune that feels like it was plucked right out of Ghost in the Shell by the time it hits the chorus, this song is a beautifully haunting masterpiece.

Anime: Kingdom
Song: “King”
Artist: Emiko Suzuki
Why I Love It: The vast majority of this song is sung with two female vocals blended together. It gives the whole thing an almost Hiroyuki Sawano vibe—which is about the biggest complement I can give a song.

Anime: Kobayashi-san Dragon Maid S
Song: “Ai no Supreme”
Artist: fhána
Why I Love It: This song just screams fun with its silly, cutesy rap and soring chorus.

Anime: Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story
Song: “Careless”
Artist: ClariS
Why I Love It: I mean, what would a Madoka Magica anime be without a cute ClariS song that feels like a perfect fit for any magical girl anime—you know except for one with the dark content of Madoka Magica.

Anime: Record of Ragnarok
Song: “KAMIGAMI”
Artist: Maximum the Hormone
Why I Love It: Okay. I admit it. I’m not much for the half-rap, half-screaming male vocals but I absolutely love the big band feel of the female ones.

Film: Rurouni Kenshin: The Beginning
Song: “Broken Heart of Gold”
Artist: ONE OK ROCK
Why I Love It: Sure, the singer is amazing the whole way through but Jesus Christ—how that bassline in the chorus plays off the vocals is something wonderful.

Bonus Game Pick
Game Guilty Gear Strive
Song: “Love the Subhuman Self”
Artist: AISHA, Jamison Boaz
Why I Love It: The progression in this song is amazing. The first verse it is Aisha’s powerful voice alone. The next verse adds death metal growl harmonies. Then for the final pre-chorus, it drops all instruments before bringing it all back for the final chorus. It’s so good I bought the $60 game and a $300 Hitbox just to play while listening to it.
