With this fall’s 49 new TV anime comes a slew of anime music. And then there are all the songs from the various films, ONAs, and continuing series to add to that number as well. With all that music, you could listen for hours and hours–but if you’re just looking for some select picks, here are the ones I’ve enjoyed the most.
*Note: Songs are presented in alphabetical order by series.

Anime: Assassin’s Pride
Song: “Share the light”
Artist: Run girls, Run!
Why I Love It: For this one, what I enjoy the most is the syncopation in the chorus–syncopation caused by completely cutting the synthesizer to cause moments of near silence in the song.

Anime: Beastars
Song: “Wild Side”
Artist: ALI
Why I Love It: While I would love this one just for the big band jazz alone, it would be a sin not to highlight the amazing stop motion animation that accompanies it.

Anime: Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered but Overly Cautious
Song: “TIT FOR TAT”
Artist: MYTH & ROID
Why I Love It: The vocals, at times, seem discordant with the background music (and sometimes with each other)–especially in the chorus. Yet, when all put together, a catchy melody appears.

Anime: High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even In Another World
Song: “dear my distance”
Artist: Akari Kito
Why I Love It: A powerful, syncopated chorus in a song with heavy piano is all it takes to make Richard a happy boy.

Anime: The Legend of the Galactic Heroes The New Thesis: Stellar War
Song: “Tranquility”
Artist: SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Anly
Why I Love It: The violin and the piano in the first verse are so beautiful I want to cry. Then in the chorus, it becomes a wonderful power ballad made complete with a soprano belting out the high notes. I swear Sawano Hiroyuki can do no wrong.

Anime: My Hero Academia Season 4
Song: “Koukai no Uta”
Artist: Sayuri
Why I Love It: The vocals press on relentlessly at a fast and frantic pace just like our heroes in the anime. (And you gotta love how the vocals play around with the beat.)

Anime: Psycho-Pass 3
Song: “Q-vism”
Artist: Who-ya Extended
Why I Love It: I just can’t get over how high the male singer can go in this song without breaking into his falsetto.

Anime: Stand My Heroes: Piece of Truth
Song: “Precious My Heroes”
Artist: fox capture plan feat. Issui Miyamoto
Why I Love It: The female vocalist has the tiniest bit of rasp on the edge of her voice that I find endlessly captivating. (And it doesn’t hurt that the chorus is rather catchy to boot.)

Anime: Sword Art Online: Alicization: War of Underworld
Song: “unlasting”
Artist: LiSA
Why I Love It: A power ballad using a mix of piano and traditional Japanese instruments, what’s not to like?

Anime: Vinland Saga
Song: “Drown”
Artist: milet
Why I Love It: This song shows off the power, body, range, and spot-on control milet has over her voice in a way that makes it hard not to be impressed.
