While Steins;Gate is often ranked among the best anime of the past decade, it’s often overlooked that it is actually part of a bigger franchise: the Science Adventure Series. This series includes other semicolon-sporting titles like Robotics;Notes and Chaos;Head, but if you’re wondering how they all fit together, I’ve put together a little timeline for you.
Now, a few quick notes. The reason that this is a “basic timeline” and not an “exact” one is due to the level of detail provided. While the dates are absolutely correct, the Steins;Gate anime in particular are spread across three different sets of parallel worlds known as “attractor fields”–meaning some anime happen at the same time as others but in different attractor fields. For the timeline below, I’ve done my best to sort each of the Science Adventure Series anime into the correct attractor field. However, please note that individual episodes (or parts of episodes) from these series may occasionally cross over into other attractor fields than the ones listed.
Lastly, it’s important to note that I did not include the special four episode short-form anime Steins;Gate – The Sagacious Wisdom of Cognitive Computing in this timeline. While I suspect it takes place in the days after Steins;Gate: The Movie – Load Region of Déjà Vu–given that Kurisu is staying in an identical hotel room to that of the movie (and it was made by the same production team as the film)–it could technically take place a year earlier in the alpha attractor field just as easily.
